  • Maintain the security and integrity of our systems

We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties.

3. HIPAA and Protection of Sensitive Information

While InterpreterLab is primarily an educational platform and not a healthcare provider, we recognize that certain interpreting exercises may involve simulated or real health-related terminology or practice materials.

To that end:

  • We strive to follow HIPAA Privacy and Security principles for the protection of Personal and Protected Health Information (PHI) handled within the platform.
  • All user data is stored in a secure database on restricted servers with firewall and encryption controls.
  • Access to personal data is limited to authorized personnel only.
  • Any recordings uploaded are treated as confidential training data, never shared publicly or with third parties without consent.

Users are reminded not to upload any real patient-identifiable information as part of training exercises.

InterpreterLab uses secure third-party services, including OpenAI's Whisper transcription API, to process audio recordings. All transmissions are encrypted, and no recordings are shared with healthcare entities or used to identify real individuals.

4. Data Retention

We retain your personal data only for as long as necessary to:

  • Provide your subscribed services
  • Comply with legal and financial obligations
  • Resolve disputes and enforce our agreements

You may request deletion of your data at any time (see Section 8).

5. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

InterpreterLab uses cookies to:

  • Keep you logged in securely
  • Remember language or theme preferences
  • Analyze website performance and usage trends

You may disable cookies in your browser, but some platform functions may not work properly.

6. Data Security

We take strong security measures, including:

  • SSL/TLS encryption on all connections
  • Password hashing and salted storage
  • Database-level security with limited access
  • Firewalls and intrusion prevention systems
  • Regular server updates and vulnerability checks

Despite these safeguards, no system is 100% secure. By using InterpreterLab, you acknowledge and accept this inherent risk.

7. Data Sharing and Third Parties

We share data only when necessary for functionality or compliance:

  • PayPal for payment processing
  • Resend for transactional emails (password resets, notifications)
  • OpenAI Whisper API - InterpreterLab uses OpenAI's Whisper speech-to-text technology to transcribe or analyze user audio for educational purposes only (e.g., pronunciation, terminology practice, or interpreting assessment). Recordings are transmitted securely for processing and are not used by OpenAI to train models or stored for unrelated purposes. InterpreterLab limits the use of this service strictly to performance improvement and learning evaluation within the platform.
  • Analytics tools to improve site performance (aggregated and anonymized data only)

These third parties follow strict privacy and data protection standards.

8. Your Rights and Choices

You have the right to:

  • Access, correct, or delete your personal data
  • Request a copy of your stored data
  • Withdraw consent for non-essential communications

To exercise your rights, contact us at support@interpreterlab.com. We will respond within 30 days in accordance with applicable laws.

We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has provided information, please contact us for prompt removal.
